Governor’s Update

During a conference call with reporters the Governor announced,

  • New York has a 0.9% positive infection rate, which is the second lowest in the nation.
Mayoral Update

During the Mayor’s press conference he announced,

  • The City will file a complaint against President Trump’s decision to withhold funding from cities the Trump administration determined to be “anarchist cities.”
  • A plan to increase the level of mental health support for thousands of students in neighborhoods hit hardest by COVID-19.

Governor’s Update

During the Governor’s press conference he announced,

  • Adjustments to restrictions that will be made in red, orange, and yellow zones including,
    • Locations can exit a red zone if their positive infection rate is under 3% after 10 days (4% in less populated areas).
    • Locations can exit an orange zone if their positive infection rate is under 2% after 10 days (3% in less populated areas).
    • Locations can exit a yellow zone if their positive infection rate is under 1.5% after 10 days (2% in less populated areas).
Mayoral Update

During the Mayor’s press conference he announced,

  • The City’s two-step vaccine distribution plan:
    • Phase 1:
      • Limited supply
      • Health care personnel, frontline and essential workers, and vulnerable groups will be prioritized
      • A Citywide immunization registry
      • Education and outreach to providers, such as pharmacies, urgent care, private and public hospitals, and COVID testing sites
    • Phase 2:
      • Expansion of efforts
      • Ensure adequate cold storage
      • Recruitment of, and training for, providers

During a conference call with reporters the Governor announced,

  • The State will extend the commercial eviction and foreclosure moratorium through January 1.
Mayoral Update

During the Mayor’s press conference he announced,

  • An update on COVID-19 results in the City’s public schools, which had a positivity rate of 0.17 percent out of 16,348 tests conducted.
  • DemocracyNYC developed a “How to Vote Safely” fact sheet, which can be viewed in 13 different languages.
  • A new partnership with CitiBike which offers 50% off rides on Election Day.
  • The self-response rate for the 2020 Census was 61.8%, which was higher than projections from the U.S. Census and many large cities across the U.S.

  • His call on the Federal government to begin developing plans to administer a vaccine when it becomes available.
Mayoral Update

During the Mayor’s press conference he announced,

  • The appointment of Melanie Hartzog as Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services and Department of Finance Commissioner Jacques Jiha as the next Director of the Mayor’s Office of Management and Budget.

Governor’s Update

During a conference call with reporters the Governor announced,

  • The National Governors Association sent a letter to President Trump indicating the need to discuss the roles and expectations of States for the vaccine distribution program.
Mayoral Update

During the Mayor’s press conference he announced,

  • The Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities and Commissioner Victor Calise are delivering 100,000 clear masks that will protect people from the virus but will allow ease of communication for those who rely on lip reading.

Governor’s Update

During a conference call with reporters the Governor announced,

  • He is sending a notification to local governments in red zones noting the State will withhold funds if they do not enforce COVID restrictions in hot zones.
  • He is notifying all schools in red zones that they will lose funding if they do not close.
Mayoral Update

During the Mayor’s press conference he announced,

  • A partnership between the City and the taxi app Curb to offer $5 off rides to polling places for the first 5,000 people to take advantage of early voting.
  • The deadline to complete the 2020 Census is now October 15, due to a ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court.
