  • The City will make the Open Restaurants initiative permanent and year-round.

Governor’s Update

During the Governor’s press conference he announced,

  • New York State will create an independent Clinical Advisory Task Force of leading scientists, doctors, and health experts who will review every vaccine authorized by the Federal government.
  • His plans to appoint a committee for a Vaccine Plan, which will include plans for prioritizing administration based on clinical guidance, a distribution network, qualified administration, data and IT infrastructure, public education, and vaccine procurement.

During the Mayor’s press conference he announced,

  • The foundation of the City’s recovery agenda, which will hinge on four key principles:
    • Continue the City’s momentum in fighting back COVID-19
    • Make the City a hub for public health research
    • Create high-quality jobs
    • Continue making New York the fairest city in America
  • A Citywide rapid testing program, in partnership with the Alexandria Center for Life Science, which begins today with a rapid testing design competition, with a goal to find a test that costs between $5 and $10 and yields results in less than 20 minutes.

  • An additional 9,000 City employees will be required to take five furlough days between October 1 through the end of March, saving the City over $21 million.

During the Mayor’s press conference he announced,

  • The Brooklyn Municipal Building will be renamed in honor of the late Supreme Court Justice, Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
  • There will be an expanded focus on certain communities where the City has seen an uptick in cases, including Kew Gardens, Borough Park, Midwood, Far Rockaway, Flatbush, and Williamsburg.

  • An Executive Order extending the moratorium on commercial evictions until October 20.
Mayoral Update

During the Mayor’s press conference he announced,

  • Up to 90,000 students are expected to return to classrooms for in-person instruction on September 21 at 734 schools serving District 75 and early childhood students.
  • A new set of initiatives for young men of color, called Mentors Matter, which includes
    • A program called One Hundred Black Men, which will provide 750 Black and brown male students with mentoring, educational enrichment, exposure to career opportunities, and scholarships.
    • An expansion of CUNY Tutor Corps, which will support 3,600 additional students with academic tutoring and peer mentoring.
    • The Community Crisis Response will provide $500,000 grants to Community Based Organizations that offer tutoring, mentoring, and social emotional support.

Mayoral Update

During the Mayor’s press conference he announced,

  • An updated in-person school reopening schedule:
    • September 21: 3-K, Pre-K, and District 75 schools will be open;
    • September 29: K-5 and K-8 schools will open;
    • October 1: Middle and High schools, Secondary Schools, Transfer/Adult Education will open.
  • 2,500 additional educators will be hired, bringing the total to 4,500 additional educators Citywide.

During the Governor’s press conference he announced,

  • That old Wells Fargo train cars will be dropped into Hempstead Reef off Point Lookout near Jones Beach in Long Island to create a new artificial reef to aid the tourism industry and help with quality of life.
Mayoral Update

During the Mayor’s press conference he announced,

  • That every Mayor’s office employee, nearly 500 in total, will take five furlough days between October 1 and the end of March.

Mayoral Update

During the Mayor’s press conference he announced,

  • A Citywide ad campaign called “Get Your Flu Shot” which will provide information on the flu vaccine on subways, buses, shelters, neighborhood businesses, ferries, and more.
  • The latest estimate from the Test and Trace Corps is that testing and tracing has prevented up to 15,000 COVID-19 cases. Test and Trace Corps will be beginning hyperlocal response efforts in Southeast Queens.

During the Mayor’s press conference he announced,

  • A new DOE COVID Response Situation Room that will include the DOE, Test and Trace, and DOH-MH staff, and provide daily reporting on the latest positive cases in school communities.
    • The Situation Room will take all calls from principals, as made possible by the new dedicated hotline, and will be available six days a week.
  • The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will not be held live or in-person, but will be streamed online and aired on television.
