Governor’s Update

During the Governor’s press conference he announced,

  • The MTA will file a rule on an emergency basis with the New York Secretary of State that permits fines of $50 for failure to comply with the mask directive on subways, buses, the LIRR, and Metro North.
Mayoral Update

During the Mayor’s press conference he announced,

  • Indoor dining will be reassessed if the City’s infection rate rises to 2%.

Governor’s Update

During the Governor’s press conference he announced,

  • The State will allow indoor dining to resume in New York City at 25% capacity on September 30.

  • The State will expand the SLA and State Police task force; the City will provide 400 code enforcement inspectors to work with the task force, and the NYS Restaurant Association and the State will run public service announcements providing information to New Yorkers on how to report noncompliance.
Mayoral Update

During the Mayor’s press conference he announced,

  • The NYPD made 160 gun arrests the week of August 31, the most gun arrests in a single week in 25 years.
  • School bus service will be back and available to all children who need it; there will be service for 100,000 students by September 21 (first day of in-person school).

Governor’s Update

During the Governor’s press conference he announced,

  • The SLA and NYS Police Task Force observed 4,824 establishments and issued violations to 37 establishments over Labor Day weekend.
  • Delaware, Maryland, Ohio, and West Virginia were added to the list of high-risk states and territories; Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands were removed.
  • SUNY Oneonta, Cornell, University at Buffalo, SUNY Oswego, Colgate University and SUNY Fredonia have all seen outbreaks, and that the NYS Dept. of Health will be issuing regulations to require colleges to notify the State when they have 100 COVID-19 cases. Schools may be required to transition to remote learning.
  • The Department of Health will publicly disclose a daily COVID Report Card for every K-12 school in the State; schools, local health departments, labs and all testing sites are required to collect and report testing data.
  • An Executive Order to allow absentee ballots to be returned to drop boxes without a wait at 300+ locations statewide.
Mayoral Update

During the Mayor’s press conference he announced,

  • The Sheriff’s Office will be stopping buses traveling from 33 designated states and territories to ensure travelers fill out required health forms.
  • 1,485 school buildings had their air filtration systems inspected, and 96% of inspected classrooms passed.
  • The Learning Bridges program, which will provide a free childcare program for preschool and K-8 students enrolled in blended learning on remote learning days.
    • The program will have 30,000 seats available on the first day of school, over 70,000 seats by the end of October, and over 100,000 seats in December.

During a conference call with reporters the Governor announced,

  • Upstate casinos can reopen September 9, on the condition that they have enhanced air filtration in place.
  • Malls in New York City can reopen at 50% capacity September 9, on the condition that they have enhanced air filtration in place.

During the Mayor’s press conference he announced,

  • There will be no West Indian Day Parade or J’Ouvert Festival, but there will be virtual celebrations as an alternative.

During the Mayor’s press conference he announced,

  • New plans for school reopening, including
    • the delay of in-class learning until September 21.
    • teachers will report as scheduled September 8; September 8, 9, 10, 11, 14, and 15 will be preparation days.
    • a three-day remote session for all students beginning September 16.
    • a medical monitoring program that would randomly test 10-20% of the school community at each school, each month.

Mayoral Update

During the Mayor’s press conference he announced,

  • The City’s plan to fulfill the Obama Foundation’s pledge regarding use of force in policing. The pledge includes a commitment to review police use of force policies, engage communities by seeking a diverse range of input, report the findings of the review, and reform police use of force policies.
  • His decision to pause expected layoffs of 22,000 City workers to give more time for negotiations with the State legislature to increase the City’s borrowing authority.
