Mayoral Update

During the Mayor’s press conference he announced,

  • The City’s plan for a safe school reopening, including,
    • Free 24-hour turnaround testing at 34 city-run testing locations
    • Free PPE equipment for staff and students.
    • The Test + Trace Corps will respond to any outbreaks and work to mitigate risks.
    • The limiting of contact between students outside of their own classroom.

Governor’s Update

During a conference call with reporters, the Governor announced,

  • A $30 million dollar investment in contact tracing and flu vaccine accommodations that will be available to various NYS counties.
  • He is sending the State Department of Health and Northwell staff to Utah to support their COVID-19 response efforts.
Mayoral Update

During the Mayor’s press conference he announced,

  • A warning he received from Con Edison that the electrical supply is in danger right now in the following five Brooklyn neighborhoods: Bay Ridge, Fort Hamilton, South Park Slope, Greenwood, and Sunset Park.

Governor’s Update

During a conference call with reporters, the Governor announced,

  • New York State has a team on the ground in Saint Petersburg, Florida providing 7,500 test kits, PPE, and NY-made hand sanitizer.
  • The 2020 U.S Open will be hosted in NY on September 14th without fans.
Mayoral Update

During the Mayor’s press conference he announced,

  • His call on the State to extend the voter registration deadline.
  • The City joined a coalition and lawsuit against President Trump’s attempt to exclude undocumented immigrants from the Census count.

Mayoral Update

During the Mayor’s press conference he announced,

  • An Executive Order to support M/WBEs, which
    • Directs agencies to prioritize M/WBEs for contracts valued up to $500,000.
    • Directs agencies to have a Chief Diversity Officer, who will be in charge of leading the M/WBE effort.
    • Directs agencies to include M/WBEs in emergency contracts.
    • Asks agencies to reevaluate M/WBE’ subcontracting goals and existing contracts.
    • Asks agencies who procure contracts of over $25M to send the contracts to the Mayor’s Office of Contract Services and the Director of M/WBEs to evaluate whether contracts might be broken up and distributed evenly among M/WBEs.
    • Directs the office of M/WBEs to work with DOE, H+H, and NYCHA, to evaluate any potential for an M/WBE program.
  • New efforts from the Taskforce on Racial Inclusion and Equity to support businesses in Black and brown communities, including,
    • A talent matching program, to expand access to contracts for businesses rooted in Black and brown communities.
    • Pro-bono Business Consultant Corps, to provide strategy and operations planning and support.
    • A mentorship network, to help launch and grow businesses.
  • Revel has decided to shut down its operations and will not be allowed to resume operations until the City can ensure its safety.

During the Mayor’s press conference he announced,

  • A new community recreation center at the Nostrand playground in Flatbush, Brooklyn, which will be named after Representative Shirley Chisholm, and will include a workforce development and technology incubator named after Dr. Roy Hastick.

Governor’s Update

During the Governor’s press conference he announced,

  • The Toronto Blue Jays will play their home games at Sahlen Field in Buffalo this season.
  • The State Liquor Authority and NYS Police conducted compliance checks on July 23 in the downstate and New York City area, and will be issuing violations to 37 establishments.
Mayoral Update

During the Mayor’s press conference he announced,

  • The City will be launching an “Open Play Streets” programming initiative for children, which will include sports, activities, arts and crafts, dance classes, reading corners, and more.
  • Alternate Side Parking will operate between Monday, August 3 through Saturday, September 5,

During the Governor’s press conference he announced,

  • There has been a significant uptick in COVID-19 infection rates with young adults, and speculated that this is due to increased gatherings as the weather gets warmer.
Mayoral Update

During the Mayor’s press conference he announced,

  • A new partnership with Medrite to provide four testing sites that will conduct 1,200 more tests per day; the City will now have the ability to test 50,000 New Yorkers per day.
  • The expansion of the City’s hyper-local COVID-19 response, with a heightened focus on the Rockaways and Sunset Park.
    • This program engages communities hardest hit by COVID-19 through the deployment of resources and supportive services.
  • The City will open eight public pools across the five boroughs.

  • Local governments must enforce the law to break up excessive gatherings; the State Liquor Authority requires assistance from local law enforcement in order to do more strict enforcement.

  • The landlord-tenant mediation project, which will offer free assistance to tenants struggling to pay rent.
  • A $22m investment, made available through the transfer of capital funds from the NYPD budget, to rebuild and restore NYCHA Community Centers.
