About the Role
Kasirer is seeking to hire a strategic-minded, tenacious individual to join our team. As a Vice President, Corporate & Legislation, you will work closely with the firm’s current clients and lead complex projects, as well as look to expand the corporate & legislation practice of the firm working with community business leaders to address their advocacy needs toward building the future of New York. Kasirer’s corporate clients encompass a wide range of industry leaders in fields that include, but are not limited to technology, hospitality, media and entertainment, and many more.

The firm is looking for an individual with strong intergovernmental skills and experience who has either worked for or with government, and/or in leadership positions on political campaigns with a clear understanding of policy making and platforms, as well as the advocacy needs of the NYC business community. They will manage and develop comprehensive strategic plans to advance specific projects through complex community relations and legislative campaigns which include interactions with City and State elected and appointed officials. The successful candidate will be able to lead clients independently day-to-day. They will have a sophisticated political lens and keen sense of the changing landscape, able to make sound predictions and provide enlightened analysis based on one’s knowledge and experience. In addition, they must be able to create effective partnerships with advocacy and governmental organizations—as well as third-party industry leaders—and manage any political and community issues involved for the purpose of advancing the client’s agenda.

The Vice President must possess a strong commitment to the community that they will serve and demonstrate an ability to understand an issue from all sides in order to be an effective and strategic problem solver. This person must be highly organized and have the capacity to identify opportunities and utilize a network of connections relevant to our clients.

The Vice President must have a calm, focused and effective response to crisis and must thrive in a high-pressure environment to lead clients through complex situations that spontaneously emerge, all while managing workflows on a variety of long-term projects with a discerning eye on the ever-changing political landscape. They must be able to manage and move multiple projects forward for numerous clients simultaneously and stay on top of external events and developments that can be leveraged to help achieve a client’s goals. Relationships with City Council Members and Borough Presidents and their staff, as well as with members of the Mayoral administration are key. The successful candidate will be a skilled communicator, as well as someone who can successfully maneuver through complicated relationships to achieve goals. They must be hands-on and be able to work collaboratively with the firm’s leadership and staff to promote a respectful and inclusive environment that emphasizes cooperation and teamwork with a minimum of ego. In addition, they must be respectful of the perspectives of others and possess sound judgment.

Specific Responsibilities

The Vice President will report to the Senior Vice President, Corporate & Legislation, and be responsible for:

  • The management of client relationships over a portfolio-wide engagement on multiple projects;
  • Leading complex projects for clients including RFP proposals, City and State agency permits and approvals, legislative initiatives, City funding requests (both Council and Administration), procurements and much, much more;
  • Developing and cultivating a network of contacts in government, politics, and with civic leaders Citywide to advance clients’ medium- and long-range goals;
  • Drafting and executing strategic plans for clients designed to achieve their New York City government relations objectives;
  • Managing government relations directors and associates and providing day-to-day mentorship to them;
  • Liaising with the Nonprofit and Real Estate teams to work on issues of common responsibility for shared clients;
  • Preparing thoughtful briefings and actionable strategy plans for Kasirer’s principals and clients;
  • Monitoring trends among clients and the NYC industrial markets to help inform strategy and significant changes;
  • Pitching prospective clients and contributing on proposals, and much more.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Extremely strong organizational skills including detail-orientation. Able to organize, prioritize, track and manage workflow/resources. Ability to strategically manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Exceptional ability to distill complicated information into easy-to-understand memos;
  • Proactive about trying to get better at whatever they do; reflect on successes/failures, seek feedback, incorporate feedback immediately to improve, ask for the help or resources they need to be successful, and assume personal responsibility.
  • Understanding of New York City’s political landscape.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree a plus;
  • Minimum five (5) years experience working in either government, political campaigns or advocacy;
  • Knowledge of and/or experience working in NYS or NYC government strongly preferred;
  • Exceptional writing and verbal skills and high attention to detail; strong organizational skills;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and a strong team ethic;
  • Existing network of contacts with government officials, New York City elected officials and their staff, and community board members and civic leaders;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and lead multiple lobbying advocacy campaigns;
  • Willingness to attend night events/meetings and occasional weekend events;
  • Working knowledge of MS Office software, i.e. Word, Excel and PowerPoint, with the ability to create and properly format spreadsheets, charts, graphs, presentations and word documents.
